Not a New Year’s Resolution…A Solution
Happy New Year Y’all.
I hope everyone is ready to leave 2016 in the memory file cabinet and embrace the adventure that awaits in 2017. With a new year comes many opportunities. You have to pick and choose which will work best for you. Many people start the year off with a New Year’s Resolution. Every year we start out with all the things we are determined to conquer. For some of us that goes well. For others the list gets thrown to the wayside and we get hit with the reality that we haven’t completed the tasks. People, we are not failures if we don’t complete every resolution on our list. We simply allowed life to get in the way of something we once thought was important. Why do we do that?
Houston We Have a Problem.
The answer is pretty simple. When we make our New Year’s Resolution, it’s because we see a problem. Something we need to fix in our lives. Instead of a resolution we really need a solution. We don’t need to make this big, bold, and general statement of what we are going to change. We need a step by step solution to our dilemma. How do we do that?
What’s the Problem?
Determine what your problem is. For me the biggest problem is eating habits. We eat on the go a lot, and I have picky eaters. That really limits me on cooking meals that everyone can eat. I find myself giving in to simplicity of going out and letting everyone order what they want, and I don’t have to cook or clean up after. The thing is I am creating more problems for myself. Money was streaming from wallet. I had created an unhealthy lifestyle and awful eating habits. My family and I had gained excess weight. I know if I fix the main problem, the others resolve automatically. Win win win.
How To Problem Solve.
- Identify the problem.
- Find several possible solutions.
- Get some help.
- Decide which action you’ll take first.
- Get busy making changes.
- Keep an eye on your progress.
- If at first you don’t succeed, start back at 1.
It’s just that simple. Change your New Year’s Resolution into a Solution. Put your problem solving skills to work. This time next year this thing you set out to conquer will be in your rear view.
